Why I’m still playing Pokemon Go

I know it has been a while, but I’ve been adjusting to a new routine. I have about 4 posts I want to share, so be on the watch for those!

But for now, I am going to talk about Pokemon Go. I downloaded the app as soon as it became available. Literally in the first 10 mins. As I have mentioned previously, I really love Pokemon. When Go was announced last year, I made the statement that I wanted to quit my job and travel the world becoming a Pokemon master and taking money from punk kids when I beat their arses.

Obviously, that is not what has eventuated. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a little disappointed. It has been my dream to be a Pokemon master ever since I first started watching the anime and playing the game. Whatever. I still love this game and will continue to play it even though the hype has died so long ago. It’s as close as I will get to Pokemon in real life for a very long time.

So why am I still playing it? At it’s base level, I still find it fun. It appeals to my need for completion. I am still so far away from finishing my Pokedex. Plus it’s Pokemon. I mean come on I was always going to be playing this. I think the other surprising thing is that George and I both play and we enjoy going for walks around our neighborhood together (George has even lost weight with all the walking he has done!). We have actually gone out and explored new areas around our city that were known Pokemon spawn points and had a great time doing so. I feel like if he wasn’t as into it (and he is much more into it than I am, but granted he has 2 weeks every month to pretty much play the game) I probably wouldn’t be. I would still play it don’t get me wrong, but there is something about playing a game and being able to talk about it, compare progress and get shitty over it when one catches something cool and it runs away from the other…He still hasn’t gotten over the time that I caught a Gengar in the Woolworths checkout line…

Will I continue to play it, of course I will. It’s Pokemon. I can’t wait for the next generation to be released, or trading, or being able to battle against other users. George and I have always had ultimate teams that we battle against eachother. I can’t wait to do the same in AR. Actually on the topic of AR, this is actually a very good application of the technology. To see a Bulbasaur in the real world is pretty cool and still is and always will be. I’m a sucker for anything Pokemon.

One day I will be able to fulfill my dream of becoming the very best, like no one ever was. Until then there is Pokemon Go. So with that, I am off to go hatch some eggs and hopefully catch enough Charmander and Dratini to evolve. Gotta catch’em all.
