Garden update

Almost a year ago now, I posted about how we were doing up our garden and were in planning mode. Well, we are well we are pretty much there now! Before everything was brown. Now there is so much green it is just a pleasure to look outside and be outside in my little haven.

The first step of the plan was to lay down astroturf. This was possibly one of the best life decisions I have ever made. The area of our courtyard that has space for grass would be just over 1m wide and about 6 to 7m long. Plus it is shaded quite alot of the day so to grow real grass would be such a pain. I went on a quest to find the nicest feeling astroturf I could find and boy did I succeed! It feels so nice to walk on bare foot, and whilst you can tell it is fake (it’s too green not to be), there are little flecks of brown in there to not make it look like a mini golf course!

The below photo is just after the grass was laid but we hadn’t really planted anything.

Look at how much better it looks with the green! Obviously it was still a work in progress but there was green!

So flash forward about 6 months, check out my garden now!

It’s so green and so lovely to look at now! I love spending time outside in my garden now. I’m very protective over it and make sure it is as healthy as possible. I need to find a way to keep the possums from my kale though. But yes, pretty much everything is or will be edible (besides a few flower pots and a very nice aloe vera propagated by a friend). That pallet planter was lovingly crafted by George and it is exactly what I wanted. The only thing that doesn’t seem to be doing well in there is the baby spinach but eh.

Also that giant overgrown looking vine is a snow pea plant! It has just gone crazy! I do need to give it a good prune…one day soon.

So yes, I am very happy with how my garden is looking right now. There are still things to do, but it is actually pleasant to be outside now. I also really find it relaxing to tend to my garden (yes I know what I was saying there), it is totally a form of meditation to me to water and weed it. I’m so happy with the results.
