Japan day 10 – Osaka

Another lateish start today due to George’s sickness which I think I am now starting to get infected with…hooray. Drizzly weather again today so we planned to do indoor or undercover activities mostly.

What we did

We caught the train to Osaka station to find apparently the best kushikatsu in Osaka. I’ll explain more in what we ate…but essentially it was lightly fried meat on a stick. There was quite a line to wait to get into the small restaurant. I was starting to get quite hangry much to George’s delight :p

Whilst in Osaka station, we also made it over to the Osaka Pokemon center. They had released some of the things I was after so finally made a decent purchase 🙂 you’ll see what in what we bought 🙂

From here, we traveled to Tenjimbashisuji shopping street which is one of the world’s largest undercover shopping streets at 2.6kms long. We walked up and back and it was here I could feel the sick take hold. We didn’t buy anything here but it was nice to look around.

Finally we made our way back to Dotonburi to go to another yakiniku restaurant. But this one was different. It served special Osaka Matsusaka beef which is a type of Wagyu. Again I’ll go into more detail in what we ate.

From here we were both feeling sorry for ourselves so we went home to bed. Stupid sick.

Despite the sick, we still managed to walk 16,724 steps.

What we ate

This is kushikatsu. It was our lunch. We tried a few different ones such as Pork fillet, chicken fillet, beef fillet, cheese, sweet potato, shitake and lotus root. You then dip said fried item into that sauce container at the back. Simple and delicious and totally worth the wait. The cabbage was there to spoon more sauce onto your kushikatsu if you didn’t dip it enough the first time as double dipping is strictly a no no due to the sauce being communal.

For dinner we found a place that was very highly recommended online that served Matsusaka beef yakiniku style. This beef was unlike any other I have tasted. We decided to get the Matsusaka tasting plate which featured lean and super marbled pieces of beef.

Oh and some vegetables too 🙂 We decided to eat our way from leanest cuts to the most marbled. It was a wise choice.

This was the set up pre cooking. That pink thing next to the wasabi is beef fat that you use to make it so the meat doesn’t stick to the grill. Yup.

Because I was feeling like trash, I needed soup to warm my bones. This is miso with the addition of beef. A beefed up miso if you will. Very delicious and hearty.

What we bought

I was waiting for these! Look at those loveable derp faces! I love them so much! I really wanted to buy them all but again my conscious (George) limited me to one big one and one small one. They are ditto transformations that didn’t quite work and they are adorable.

We also bought cold and flu drugs because death sickness.
