Japan day 11 – Osaka
Another slow day for us as we were both battling the sick. Eventually we were able to take ourselves outside to experience a little more of what Osaka has to offer. It was a much sunnier day too with no rain 🙂
What we did
Firstly we had to satisfy our bellies. So we headed for one of the most popular Tako-yaki places in Dotonburi. It wasn’t exactly hard to miss with that giant octopus overhead!
We had to wait in line a while, but there were chefs making the delicious morsels right in front of us which was so cool to see!
Look how perfect they look! I had to let them cool a little as there were fresh out the pan and the first bite burnt my tongue 😦 once they were cooled enough they were totally delicious.
From here, we headed to the Namba Yasaka shrine. I super loved it here. It was so serene in amongst the city. I really could have sat here for hours. George on the other hand…could not. So we stayed a little longer than he would have liked to let me indulge my inner peace a little.
This is some sort of lettuce I think that is much more suited to being an ornamental plant. I’ve seen them quite a few times in gardens and pots.
These could have so easily been missed but I found them!
Could you tell I liked it here?
It was not far back to our airbnb, so we decided to just go back to our room and chill for a bit seeing as we were sick.
Once we had sufficiently rested, off out we headed again. This time to check out the Dogusugi shopping street which is known for kitchenware. I found much Japanese crockery that I wanted to take home, but resisted. I love all the mismatchy bowls, plates and teacups.
We then walked to Minatomachi river place. We thought it would have been quite bustling and lined with restaurants, but it wasn’t. So we went back to Dotonburi to ride the line ride for what is regarded as one of the best Okonomiyaki restaurants Mizuno. Our line ride was 30mins, which is actually quite small. The line was much longer by the time we got to the front.
We decided to have one of the set menus that offered 3 of the top menu choices. All were delicious, but our fave was the third pic which had pork and octopus in it. Just look at the delicious!
We didn’t buy anything today. It just wasn’t the day for it. Again an early night as the next morning is an 8am flight to Okinawa…so a 6am train ride for us!
Despite not being a huge day of exploring for us, we still managed 13,366 steps.

Fantastic images! I want to go to Japan solely for the food if anything, it looks unreal! Such a cool blog you have here, if you’re interested you could take part in our travel blog competition, you might quite like it – https://creators.co/@creators/4231162
