New York day 7
To start out today, we headed off to Russ & Daughters to try a proper NY bagel. My word there were a lot of fillings to choose from! George decided on the classic with smoked salmon and horseradish cream cheese, whilst I went adventurous snd had the pastrami cured salmon with sauerkraut and mustard. They were both pretty good and filling!
We were definitely satiated after that so off we went to the Intrepid Sea and Space museum. George was most excited about this building ending in eum the most.
Well it is a museum on a retired aircraft carrier so yeh, it was pretty cool. Also quite rainy when we went.
There was quite a lot to see, so here are some highlights:
Us in the space pod in the children’s discovery section. Kids get to do all the fun things.
The actual enterprise space shuttle. It was the prototype so never went into space, but Trekkies petitioned the president to change the planned name of the Constitution to enterprise and they were successful. I found this amusing.
Some of the many planes on the flight deck. Also, just after rain.
George was so happy we found the big machine gun. Seriously, I have never seen him smile so big! Also, rain is gone.
George found a bigger gun, I mean toy and I couldn’t get him to turn sround to smile.
On site was also a submarine that you could go through which was quite interesting. You can tell I’m a baker, because this is the only picture I took
It is a giant Kitchen Aid. It was impressive.
So George had his faith restored in museums and we were back off again exploring. We did find the high line, which is an old tain track that has been converted into a lovely garden walk.
I loved this pic. It was a great clash of new plants and progress and the old buildings near the docks.
A beautiful bit of street art along the highline just before it started pouring with rain again.
Soon, it did start pouring with rain so we took shelter in an underpass. Conveniently there was a pub just there, but instead we picked up an umbrella and went home. I really kinda wanted a beer though, but eh.
I decided I wanted ramen for dinner. So we found the best ramen in Chinatown. It was pretty amazing.
Above is green curry ramen (top) and lemon pepper ramen (bottom) along with sake and lime and a sake bloody mary cocktail. This was such a delicious dinner. And a fitting end to our 16,456 step day.
