New York day 8

So, it turns out you have to book in advance to visit the Statue of Liberty. It was a good thing we didn’t want to climb the crown as that is actually booked up till the end of September! We did manage to get a place on the boat over there though.

Now, let me tell you a tale of the day of lines. Oh heads up, this post is essentially a rant. Firstly, once we picked up our tickets we were shown to the line to get into the building to do the security check. Because we booked online we were able to go into the reserve line which was much faster. This line was ok. Once we were in the building, we then had to wait in line to be checked by security. Again, this line wasn’t too bad.

The third line was to actually get on the boat to Liberty Island. We had to wait in this one about 15 mins, which as you will soon find out in the scheme of things was a piss in the ocean. The boat ride itself was pleasant, and we picked up some great shots.

Once we docked, we hopped off the boat and walked around Liberty Island taking many shots of the lady herself, I’ll only bore you with one.

Once we made sure that we had actually seen everything on the island, we hopped into what I thought was the longest line I would have to be in all day. We were in line over an hour, in the super hot sun with no shade protection and I’m a red head. You do the math. I only recieved a sunburn on my scalp. The first time I have been sunburnt in the US, but still, I don’t deal with direct sunlight well. This is why I stay in doors and play video games.

Ok, when we finally made it to the boat to Ellis Island it took all of 10 mins to get there. I have no idea why we had to wait so long in line, but whatever. Ellis island was interesting and informative but super depressing. They have essentially turned it into a migration museum showcasing the main years it was in operation. As George kept telling me, it was good for me to know the plight of his people. Yup. I’m fully aware of the plight now. Much plight. So depressed. I didn’t get any photos because all of the interesting things have been removed because the climate can’t be controlled since hurricane Sandy flooded the island. So you’ll have to believe me in regards to the plight.

Once again after we explored the entire museum and island we joined the never ending line that pretty much went all the way around the island. I’m not kidding. At least it was 4pm now so the sun wasn’t out to get me. Here is a shot of Manhattan to break up my ramble.

I swear we were in line for an eternity. It was ridiculous. We made friends with the people around us to pass the time because there was no phone reception for George and definitely no free wifi for me. They were nice. But it still didn’t make up for the ridiculous time we spent in that line. Especially seeing as we had a broadway show to go to at 7:30.

We had actually spent more time in lines then actually seeing any attractions by the end of the afternoon. Now I know, I know “but Anna, you guys are going to Disneyworld there will be many lines”. It’s called fast pass bitches. And I know, there will still be lines. But yeh. I’ll be in Disneyworld, not an immigration museum island so I won’t care as much because Disneyworld.

By the time we actually got back to our room, we had 20 mins to eat and get changed into our fancy clothes. So we ate our dumplings like ducks would eat

and off we went to Broadway!

Oh my god. If you get the chance to see Book of Mormon DO IT! It is a gantastic show. So damn funny. You can really tell it is the South Park guys that wrote it. We were in stitches! So it was a good thing that they served their giant wine servings in adult sippy cups.

IMG_20150617_220327I’m so pleased with this souvenir. Wine tastes better out of a sippycup!

So in closing, the Statue Of Liberty/Ellis Island tour boats need to get their shit together. Because I didn’t pay that money to wait in a freaking line all day and go see Book of Mormon. It turned a meh day into a fantastic one. Oh and we clocked 14,388 steps today.

Tomorrow is a latter day, so peace out!
