New York day 9

Today was meant to be quite rainy, so we decided to do the Natural History Museum before heading out to Yankee Stadium to see the Yankees play.

However, we had make one little stop to Doughnut Plant as George had found out they made the best doughnuts in NY. So duh we were going.

The big square one has a vanilla bean glaze and a house made strawberry jam filling. It was also freaking delicious. I could have seriously smashed 6 of those creme brulee ones and not batted an eyelid, but I was restrained and we left.

The Natural History Museum was huge and was very interesting. However, most of their awesome dinosaur exhibit was closed due to a private party. We were hella pissed! The plane-arium (god damn youtube for not having this South Park reference to link to) was pretty awesome though. It was a show on the dark universe and I love space so I was pleased. The volcano and earthquake exhibit was also a highlight because I’m a geo nerd.

What I did find odd, was that they had artefacts from pretty much every indigenous tribe in each country, but none from Australia or New Zealand. Anyway,  no photos because reasons.

After we had seen all the exhibits, we were feeling a little hungry so we headed out to the street food stands outdoor. George didn’t  want to spent $8 on a cheese steak sandwich from street stand so we went to a skishkebab place. We didn’t ask the price first up, so we got swindled and pimped by the dude and paid $8 per chicken skewer. It was our first time getting duped. We felt like dickheads and the worst part is it wasn’t very good.

We picked up our sunken egos and headed to Yankee Staduim. It is a very impressive stadium.

Well laid out too. Upon entry, we recieved a bobble head each of a past player which was odd to us coming from  Australia where you get nothing really. We found our seats and then went to get fatty baseball food and beer. George picked up a hot dog and I had bacon cheese fries. It was sufficient. Beer however, cost $12 a cup! So we did not have any. I understand what they are doing, but hell no!

I will say though, that this is a good idea.

We were excited when the first innings started. The Yankees scored a run and then did well in the field…then it got very boring, very quickly. Look at the pretty field though.

We purchased high up seats on purpose as it was meant to rain.

Anyhoo, here are the things I learnt about baseball (cue American lynch mob):

1. They are not professional athletes. In fact most have dad bods

2. I Only knew one player,  A-rod. Because he banged Madonna for a while and I think there was a drug scandal

3. Yankee fans do not like it when pitchers walk A-rod. There were many boos and ‘you suck’ chants

4. Every player gets a theme song when they go up to bat. If I played professional baseball, this would be mine

5. Beer was too expensive and I really needed to be drinking to fully enjoy myself

6. I’ve found a sport more boring than cricket

7. MLB would benefit from a 20/20 type game. Maybe with like 3 or 4 innings.

So that’s my 2 cents. We wished there was NBA or NHL on. That would have been so much more up our alley, but eh. It was a pretty good day all up and we walked 12,336 steps.
