Off to LA LA land

So…I’ve been really slack and haven’t posted the last 2 posts of our epic 6 week trip to America waaaay back in June/July. My bad. Better late than never right?

Anyhoo, after an amazing time in Disney World we headed off to our second last stop on our journey, LA. In all honesty, I was really excited for 3 reasons. Reason the first, after NY and Orlando I was so ready for a more relaxed few days in LA to recharge the batteries. Reason the second, I was craving non fried and healthier food and figured LA would assist with this. And the third reason was that I was going to be catching up with some friends that moved there whom I hadn’t seen in ages.

I’m going to split this post into food and awesome moments, really just because it is easier for me to write it that way :p

Food

Holy crap, I have never craved a salad so much in my life! We both had America belly bad by this point. We were all bloated and it was just not a fun time. I loved the food in LA. Having friends who lived there, we were spoilt by the places we were taken to eat. Hooray for local knowledge! There were so many delicious things that we ate, so here are a few pics of some of the highlights.

So we were introduced to LA Brunch the day after 4th July. There were bottomless mimosas and fried chicken waffles and it was awesome.

When we mentioned we wanted salad, we were taken to a place that served giant salads. It was so good. My belly and body have never thanked me so much!

Mexican was also involved. It was delicious. That margarita glass was as big as my head. I had 2. It was heaven.

We also found a tasty ramen place because we missed Asian food. Pretty decent ramen.

Then there was Poke. I still haven’t made this at home yet, but I will. So fresh and tasty and like a sushi bowl.

One meal I didn’t manage to get any pics of was this amazing place we went for dinner and drinks one night (the name escapes me). The food was a Korean/Mexican fusion. It was amazing. Seriously amazing. I still think about it. In fact I really wish I had some in front of me right now. I need to start making my own version. I’ll add that to my short term goals list to master.

Awesome Moments

Our friends lived in Venice, so managed to find an Air BnB right near the canals for a pretty decent price. It was so nice and not what we pictured LA to be like at all. It was all so pretty and fairly easy/quick to walk to most places. If anything was out of walking distance, Uber was there to the rescue. If you are heading to LA, I so recommend staying around Venice Beach.

We managed to work it so we were in LA for the 4th of July. It was so amazing to see how much American’s get into it. We had a pretty sweet deal to celebrate it too. There was an awesome beach set up with amazing food and drinks, shade (hooray for shade!), beach sports, music and good people. Everyone went to so much effort but it was so chilled and awesome. We felt really lucky to be able to be involved. When the sun started to set, we all packed it up, went back to the house and chilled out for a few hours watching the amateur fireworks going off all around the place, including in people’s apartments.

The beginning of the beach set up. Yes I am under the shade already :p

Just to prove I actually was at a beach, in the sun. It was just for this photo but it’s still sun. Also I wore my R2D2 swimsuit because it was red white and blue and I am patriotic clearly :p

We also did a few tourist things like doing some shopping, going to the La Brea tar pits, seeing a movie at the Chinese Theatre, seeing the Hollywood sign (from a distance) and of course catching the famous Venice Beach roller skaters.

Oh there was this hilarious time in an Uber ride where the driver asked how we celebrate the 4th of July in Australia…we laughed.

I really loved LA. When we were telling people we were spending about 5 days here before we left, everyone was all like “LA sucks, don’t stay there.” I’m so glad we didn’t listen. We had a great time. It was more than likely due to the fact that we stayed out of the hustle and bustle tourist areas in really chilled out Venice. Oh and also for the fact that we had some pretty awesome people living there with great local knowledge 😉
