Games that have impacted me
So I was pretty wrapped up in Mass Effect 1 yesterday and kinda forgot to post. My bad. Which then got me thinking about games that really impacted me throughout the years. So here is a small list and why they hold a special place:
- River Raid (Atari 2600) – When I was small Dad brought out his 2600 and I played this game. It was the first game I really remember playing so holds a special place
- Wolfenstein 3D (PC) – I found my way onto the PC and played this game and loved it. I think I was under 10 or close to it at the time so it was way inappropriate but there was something just so satisfying about shooting things and solving puzzles even at that age
- Bubsy (SNES) – There were so many great SNES games that I loved and finished many times, however, Bubsy was that one game that I kept coming back to, looking for secrets, writing down the level codes when you finished the levels because you couldn’t save, those doors in the carnival level, the collecting of yarn, it was a great platformer
- Ocarina of Time (Nintendo 64) – This was really the first game I became obsessed with. You couldn’t tear me away from it. The graphics at the time were amazing. The storytelling, the innovative combat techniques (Z-targeting), the collecting of many things it was in my eyes a perfect game. Really it still is, you could say it has stood the test of time…heh…I’m so punny. I love this game. My all time favorite
- Pokemon Silver (Game Boy Colour/Advance) – I never had a Game Boy so I never played the original Pokemon when it came out, but my cousin never used hers so she lent me her Game Boy Colour (eventually she wanted it back so I bought myself an Advance). Silver was the first Game Boy game I bought and instantly became hooked. Something about those little monsters in my pocket just made sense. I had to catch them all. It really started my love for Pokemon (besides the show). I have since played and loved every Pokemon game, I don’t care that it is the same thing over again, it works
- Tomb Raider – 2013 (PC) – I had decided I needed to get back into PC gaming again after a long hiatus. So when I finally bought my gaming laptop I needed a game to play. I wasn’t allowed to play Mass Effect at that point because George was still playing through the trilogy so I decided on the Tomb Raider reboot. I had always loved the original games as they had great puzzles and had a kick arse female protagonist, so I was really looking forward to playing the Lara Croft back story. The game did not disappoint. Such pretty graphics, great puzzles, a captivating story and stealthy combat mixed with a shotgun when required made for a game I just couldn’t put down. I can’t wait to play Rise of the Tomb Raider when it loses it’s Xbox exclusivity
So there you have it. Even though I haven’t finished it yet I know that the Mass Effect trilogy will be added to this list considering how captivated it has me already. I can’t wait to see what else makes it to this list in the future!
