Crafternoons

Since the end of last year, a friend at work and I have started doing craft on a Friday afternoon. At first it started out as a random throw away comment, but aftera few weeks or so now others want to get in. Probably because they are seeing us have a lot of fun being kids again. It is a great way to end the week and clear the mind for the weekend.

I work in advertising where it can sometimes be incredibly stressful during the week. By sometimes, I mean all the time. Especially in my role. Friday afternoons whilst often crazy also, are usually reserved for a drink or two after work to wind down and lead you into the weekend. I am finding though that having a beer whilst doing craft is a double dose of winding down and I find myself looking forward to these 15 minutes every week.

We have definitely had polarizing reactions to our crafting. Sure it may seem childish, but we have the best time doing it, so honestly I don’t give a shit what people think. For example, today we picked up glitter pens to finish off our latest creations and we were losing our minds using them. They were so amazing. It is the simple things. Then out of the blue, another colleague came up with a whole bunch of craft materials that were in the store room and had been forgot about! Our minds were sufficiently blown. So much fun and awesome stuff to use for future Friday crafternoons.

I’m sure you are dying to see what we have been doing, so I am going to indulge that. These are the things we have done so far:

I feel like craft is a great way to de-stress and also promote creativity. It doesn’t matter what you create, it is yours and no one can take that away from you. If people judge you for doing something fun that makes you happy, they are just jealous and you should hand them some craft glue and pom poms and see what happens. There is nothing like reverting back to childhood.
