New rituals

To try and get a bit more balance in my life I have started a few new daily rituals for my mind and body. Firstly for my mind, I have started doing half an hour of colouring before I go to sleep. This is after I have done my chores, brushed my teeth and am basically ready for bed. Then I go away from screens and just colour. I let thoughts and ideas flow in and out of my mind and if one happens to be particularly good I will note it down in a Google Keep list for future reference. I have found that switching off from screens (TV, computer, mobile) in the half an hour before I go to sleep really helps with allowing me to have a decent sleep.

I have also started practicing writing down 3 things that I am grateful/thankful for at the end of each day. They can be as small as seeing skinks scatter around the garden, it doesn’t matter. They are things that made me stop and think about the good things in every day. Sometimes it can be very hard to see any good in situations, but there is always something. Since I have started doing this, it has really made me look at the little things in life more and appreciate my own self in the grand scheme of things.

For my body, I have been doing a plank morning and night for 30 seconds. I was meant to move up to 1 minute, but I really didn’t exercise at all due to being so sick last week. I started this up again today and lasted for over 30 seconds. I am building my way up to 1 minute. I have also been stretching daily to keep up my flexibility and using the foam roller to work out the kinks in my thighs and glutes. Finally, I have started adding lemon/lime to my water at work/at home. It doesn’t seem like much but I can feel benefits. I can’t explain it, I guess it is the extra vitamins my body is receiving. Eh, if it feels good and doesn’t harm you do it right?
