Gerard’s Bistro
So I was meant to post this on Thursday, but due to the giant food baby that had grown as a result of my dinner at Gerards, I just couldn’t even. So here we are.
George and I have been wanting to try this place for ages. One look at the menu online and you can see why. The menu is designed to be shared so I took a quick glance at the dessert menu too see if anything took my fancy, something did. So we ordered somewhat modestly for entree and main (the extra room was required after all!).
So, for entrees we had the Bekka wings and the spanner crab with watermelon. I really enjoyed both. The spanner crab with watermelon that had been soaked in rosewater was really different but the flavors all matched really well and it was a well balanced light entree. The wings though. They were phenomenal. I love wings. If there are wings on a menu I will more than likely have them, the spicier the better. These were up there with some of the best wings I have had. the sauce was so tasty and had a nice kick to it (NB: I have an extremely high chilli tolerance, so these are probably more on the spicy side for regular folk). I really couldn’t fault them except for that I wanted more. We both discussed that we could quite easily sit on the couch with a huge plate of these wings each and just gorge. They were that good.
For main, we went the slow cooked wagyu brisket which had been cooked for 16hrs and had accompaniments of pickles, a herb salad and yogurt to go with the home made flat breads. This looked so impressive when it came out and whilst it was tasty, I wouldn’t order it again. It was shredded at the table and you are to eat it with the flat bread and the accompaniments. The herb salad was definitely the best side to have with the meat, but the pickles were super tasty as a side. We also ordered the whole smoked eggplant which was very nice and was a good supplement to the wagyu. At this point the entrees were my favorite dishes.
Then came dessert. I had the green apple terrine with turkish apple sorbet. This was exactly my type of dessert. I love light fruit filled desserts and if there is sorbet ding ding ding we have a winner. This was just perfect and was my favourite dish of the night. I am so very happy I left room for it. George went for the dark chocolate mousse and decided it too was his favourite dish. I had a small taste but it was much too chocolatey for me.
So would I come back here, eh probably after a while. If I did, I would just order a million of those wings and desserts though. I am sure the other things on the menu are super tasty too but if I am going to be paying for it I would want things that blow my mind.
