For ages now, we have been wanting to try Sugo Mi, an Italian restaurant on Oxford St in Bulimba. We have had the gelati from behind the restaurant many, many times and it truly is delicious. I can eat so much of that lemon gelati it is not funny. But in our almost 7 years in Brisbane, and living so close to it, we haven’t tried the actual restaurant.
So before seeing Deadpool on Friday, we thought why not! Overall it was pretty good and we would probably go back. We got away with spending under $100 for mains, desserts and a cocktail and gin and tonic. My main of porcini gnocchi with mushrooms was really delicious. I love gnocchi and it was cooked perfectly. The chunky mushrooms really added a nice texture/flavour too. I would definitely order it again. George had the special mushroom ravioli and it was tasty, but the pasta was a little too thick which let the dish down.
Of course George ordered his favourite for dessert, tiramisu. I had a small spoonfull and it was full of coffee flavour. So it was tasty, but not up my alley. George seemed to enjoy it and ate it all very quickly. I actually went the gelati special which was lemon meringue flavour. I love gelati and I love lemon meringue pie (not to be biased, but my lemon meringue pie is the shit – thanks for that recipe mum!), however, this wasn’t quite right. It was a bit too creamy and sweet for me so I will stick to my usual lemon gelati next time.
As a bonus, the basil and vodka cocktail (Bassilica) was super fresh and tasty. I could drink so many of them!
Would we visit again, yeh I think we would. The pizzas that were coming out of the kitchen looked amazing and I would really like to go back to try one. Also, that mushroom gnocchi was particularly tasty.
