Sake restaurant

I’ve actually got my dad visiting this weekend which is exciting and I decided to take him to one of George and I’s favourite dining spots, Sake. I’ve actually taken dad there a few times before but the food is amazing and the restaurant itself is nice to just sit and slowly eat the tasty, tasty food. We decided to to a few smaller sharing plates rather than a few mains and they were all delicious. I’ll explain each dish in detail below:

These are sashimi tacos. One salmon and one tuna. We both had one of each. These are just amazing. I love sashimi and to put a crispy wanton in a taco shape and have a zesty tomato salsa on top is perfect. The shot of sake to accompany is also a nice touch. When ever we come here, I have to have these.

So these were steamed wagyu gyoza and prawn shumai which seemed like it was wrapped in a tangle of rice noodles. Both of these were so delicious. I really could just keep eating them all afternoon and never really get full!

I love miso soup, and this one is one of my favourites that I have had. Perfectly balanced flavours and just the right amount of additions to the broth. I was so close to ordering a second bowl!

I haven’t tried this dish before, but I will definitely have it again. Tempura oysters. They were so delicate and tasty and the addition of a wasabi mayo just had the right amount of kick the dish needed.

This is their signature popcorn shrimp. It has a spicy mayo on it too. I love this. It is essentially tempura battered prawn pieces but just like popcorn chicken, they are addictive and I could eat bowls of it!

Finally, we ended up getting one light main which was the Harvey Bay scallops with a miso butter and seasonal vegetables. Uggh this was so good, the scallops were cooked perfectly, that miso butter had perfect seasoning and the asparagus and baby corn perfectly suited the dish and gave extra sweetness. A perfect way to end the meal.

Drinks wise, we started with an Asahi, then during the meal we both had sake tasting flights which had 3 different sakes (so 6 all up). It was great to be able to try 6 different recommended ones and then be able to figure out the ones we liked. I do enjoy sake, but I have never really looked into which ones are good etc, so I do like when people just pick them for me.

I really do recommend going here. The food is delicious, the staff are lovely and will help you out with recommendations and the restaurant itself has a great setting. Oh and always get the edamame as a starter!
