Taronga Zoo

Today we made the trek to Taronga Zoo. We had both been looking forward to this as we love visiting zoos. The drive out there from where we are staying was not crazy at all which was good. Some of the houses up Mosman way were stunning too. Like crazy huge. So pretty to see.

We picked going today because we thought there would be less people than on the weekend. We were wrong. There were hundreds of school kids there on excursions. Sigh. Most were pretty good but the ones who were yelling and screaming in the nocturnal section really ground my gears.

Noisy children aside we set about methodically seeing every creature there by marking off where we had been. Standouts for me were the giraffes, echidnas, red pandas and penguins oh and quokkas.

The main elephant exhibit was closed for renovation but we still were able to see them in the smaller exhibit. I also realised how much planning goes into zoos in regards to being accessible. My knee and ankle decided to play up hardcore so the many ramps around the place were welcomed. The views from many advantage points around the zoo were spectacular. Seeing the opera house and bridge together through the trees was lovely. The abundance of shade, free water and places to sit was also great, even though it wasn’t that hot today.

I did go into the open Australian animal exhibit even though there were emus. I just used George as a human shield to protect me! Oh and the seal show was pretty good too. We didn’t manage to catch any of the other shows or feedings though.

We enjoyed oyr day at the zoo. The entrance fee was well priced too for adults. A few pictures from the day are below for your viewing pleasure. They probably don’t do it justice though.

Clever girl. The casawaries were behind electric fences. We laughed at this and then hummed the Jurassic Park theme the rest of the day.

I took waaaay to many pictures of the giraffes. But they are my favourite. Plus bridge in background.
