Art of the Brick – DC Comics expedition
So I was meant to post this way back on Sunday but life has kind of gotten in the way and I actually haven’t posted for a almost a week now. So for the next week I’ll be doubling up on posts to make up for it!
Before we went to Sydney we had seen things about a Lego DC Comics exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum. Being fans of both Lego and DC it was a no brainer that we went to check it out. It was mind blowing in real life. The amount of work and the intricate nature of the sculptures was just insane. I have always loved Lego, mainly building from a set. I was always so jealous of people like my brother who could just make up stuff with the bricks. Looking back now, he was like a master builder from the Lego movie, where as I was Emmet. So what Nathan Sawaya was able to capture in his sculptures really did blow my mind. I took so many pictures of all the sculptures, but have just included my favourites below. Yes there are a lot of them! If you ever get the chance to see this exhibition, I urge you to.
I love the John Stewart Green Lantern.
I thought that this was a really awesome representation of The Flash with the speed lines.
This actually had an LED in it to make it glow. It was pretty awesome.
This was just amazing to see as soon as you walked into the room. It was stunning and this picture does not do it justice. Besides the Batmobile, this was my favourite sculpture.
I really liked this one. I thought it was very clever to represent the colours of the uniforms like this.
To see Lego suspended in the air like this in an almost full size scale Superman was just crazy. The little floating bits at the back were a nice touch.
I only work in black. Sometimes very, very dark grey.
Hawkgirl is amazing and I am so glad she was included.
Also good that Booster Gold had a presence.
Front and back of the Batmobile This was huge and contained just shy of 490,000 bricks of Lego! It was phenomenal to see.
Cover of the Killing Joke done with Lego.
Harley Quinn using only red (with a teeny tiny bit of black).
I couldn’t believe it when there was a sculpture of Bizzaro. Bizzaro is hilarious and this just made me go awww. This was my third favourite sculpture.
This one also made me laugh. Urban Aquaman. The rubber ducky was a nice addition and the intricacy of the taps and bath feet were crazy.
