LuMi Dining

I wanted to post this straight after we ate there on our Sydney trip, however, there were too many photos to upload from my phone so needed to be at a desktop. I discovered LuMi whilst browsing through Zomato for restaurants as it came up with a 4.9 rating with over 300 reviews. For dinner, they do an 8 course degustation menu with the cuisine being Italian crossed with Japanese. Clearly we were intrigued. The restaurant itself is very modern with a lovely fit out. The lights are naked bulbs hanging from the ceiling and during daylight look quite cool, but once the sun goes down they are beautiful. The location is perfect (the picture above is the view we had from our seats) within the Darling Harbour area sitting right at the edge of the water so you over look the big pretty yachts.

But enough about that, let’s get to the business end of this and check out the food. See below for pics and an explanation of each dish.

To start we had some “snacks”. The top one was a truffle potato rosti which I could have quite easily eaten a whole plate of. The bottom one was styled to look like an iced vovo but was actually chicken pate with a raspberry jelly on a homemade wholemeal biscuit. Kinda like the most refined pate on a cracker I have ever had!.

Tempura oysters with a wasabi mayo. Uggh. These were so good. Like too good. This was also considered a snack to start.

How cute is this bread? Serious. It was like a brioche muffin loaf. It was wholemeal too and the maple butter that accompanied it was delicious. such tasty bread.

My goodness this QLD spanner crab dish was just so delicate and flavoursome. This was the perfect way to start the 8 courses.

This was so interesting. It was a custard that had been infused with the flavour of tomatoes. It was so light and the texture was silky smooth. The taste though, George likened to that moment in Ratatouille where the critic tasted the ratatouille and was transferred back to his childhood, but this dish took him back to tomato day. It really was quite something to eat.

Well the dishes just kept getting more amazing. This was a black sesame, beetroot and horseradish concoction. It blew my mind. I can’t even really explain it. It is sorcery how good this tasted and how it was made. We actually do a beetroot salad which has a few of the same ingredients but this was just another level.

This was one of the tastiest most delicately delicious things I have ever eaten. I have never had anytihng like it and I probably never will again. This dish was mushroom agnolotti served in a dashi stock. The pasta was perfect and hidden away in the perfectly sealed little parcels was a filling like nothing else. It was a mushroom butter. So when you chewed down on the little morsel, it was like an explosion of flavour as the melted butter escaped and hit every single tastebud, This is one of those dishes I will remember for a very long time and will not shut up about. As you can see from my description. Seriously, so good.

This was a pasta with anchovies and raisins. Now, I don’t like sultanas, raisins or currents. So I was a little nervous about this one. But it seemed that the raisins melted into the sauce with the anchovies and just added a sweetness. This was probably my least favourite of all the courses, but it was still tasty.

This was a beautiful piece of lamb with a spiced roasted carrot and wasabi. The meat was so tender and melted in your mouth. The glaze was 100 types of awesome and when you had a mouthful that contained each element, it was perfectly balanced.

A tomato and basil sorbet to palette cleanse.

Finally dessert. I can’t remember exactly what all this was, but the “snow” was like a sorbet that covered up a haven of delicious flavours underneath. By this time we had also matched with many, many wines so yeh I can’t quite remember the bits underneath, but it was a very light dessert that wasn’t chocolatey and that is a huge tick in my book!

If you live in Sydney, or are vising and want a restaurant that has an amazing location, but even more amazing food which you would not be able to find anywhere else book a table right now at LuMi Dining. You won’t regret it. I would 100% go back here when we next visit Sydney just to see what else they can come up with. Japanese and Italian sounded like a strange fusion, but LuMi makes it work. My god do they make it work. I need those mushroom agnolottis available to me 24/7 whenever I need a little moment of happiness.
