Mass Effect 2
I finished Mass Effect 2 yay! I would have written this post earlier but I had the inlaws visiting and then I was distracted by work. Anyway, here are my thoughts…
This was a fun game to play. Bioware continued the excellent story telling from 1, and added some new awesome characters as well as developed the story of others further. I also loved the combat style more than 1. For some reason it really suited the way I play and I think really suited the Adept class. I also feel that I have mastered the way I should fight as an Adept. Oh, the way that guns worked in terms of what you could equip was sooo much better this game too. Far less convoluted. That collector particle beam though…Best. Gun. Ever. I also fell in love with the carnifex and it became my go to gun for regular battle.
I’ve already quickly touched on the character development, but it really was a stand out. I loved that Garrus, Tali and Joker returned and had evolved after the events of the first. It was also awesome to see how Liara and Wrex ended up too. I was a touch sad to see that Wrex was not a squad member this time around because I loved him in 1, but I did grow to love Grunt. I tended to use Grunt and Garrus on most missions as they complimented my abilities as a biotic. However, in the last mission I took Miranda and Kasumi because of reasons, and thoroughly enjoyed that fight. I think I have a girl crush on Kasumi. She is just such a fun character. A great addition to the game as DLC. Besides Kasumi and Grunt, the other new character I loved was Mordin. His dialogue was such a great comic relief and he really was a bad arse. I would also love to see the Salarian rendition of HMAS Pinnafore.
In regards to the missions, I had a few favourites. Firstly, Grunt’s loyalty mission. Not only did I get to see Wrex again (I really love Wrex), but I beat the Thresher Maw. I felt pretty bad arse after that. I know I didn’t mention Legion as one of my favourite characters above, but I do enjoy what he brings to the team and the story and I feel like in ME3 I will like him even more. His loyalty mission was a lot of fun though. There was a lot to kill and the decision at the end feels like it will matter down the track. Besides these, I really enjoyed two of the DLC missions. the first was Kasumi’s loyalty mission. This is where my girl crush started. I love that it started out so differently to any other mission, but that I still got to kick butt, in a fancy pretty dress too! Her ninja like abilities are great. If it wasn’t for Garrus and if she was an option I would totally romance Kasumi. Finally, the last mission I super enjoyed was the Shaddow Broker DLC. I didn’t see the twist coming in the first part of the mission, but fighting on the outside of the ship was just so cool and so pretty! Fighting the Shaddow broker as an Adept with only Liara to help was hard I will admit. But I did it eventually and really felt good after doing so. Most of the missions were fun, but these were my standouts.
Finally, I love that my renegade status from ME1 came to ME2 and allowed me to be even more of a bitch. I also opted out of upgrading the med bay to get rid of my scars. I loved my Femshep with the scars, she was some how even more bad arse. Jennifer Hale once again killed it as Femshep. I really do feel that she gives Shep more depth as a female then Manshep. My point of view obviously, but watching George’s play through as Manshep, Femshep crushes it. I was so happy that there were more options for romances in 2 as well. The lead up to the romance with Garrus was so amusing and cute. He is so awkward and weird, just what I look for :p He truly is my space boyfriend now. Sorry Liara, I know we kinda hooked up again after the Shaddow Broker mission, but my heart has always belonged to Garrus.
So yes, I thoroughly enjoyed this game and really want to get into 3 soon! I’d hate to finish the story and leave the characters, but I do feel that this game was a great step in the trilogy. Now I know the endings of 3, but I honestly don’t care and don’t really understand the butt hurt about them. I can’t wait to play through 3 and make the decisions that do effect other things and people as well as learn more about the characters and the environments that Bioware has created.
